Our Minister from

1914 - 1916

Born an evangelical Baptist in 1885, C. F. Potter’s views changed radically throughout his life, and he became a radical humanist.

He came to Edmonton to help found a Unitarian church but his anti-war views caused a split with Edmonton Unitarian layman W.H. Alexander, so he left. Potter went on to teach comparative religion at Antioch College in the United States. In 1929 he founded the First Humanist Society of New York. He was one of the original 34 signers of the Humanist Manifesto in 1934.
