February 26th “Islam: Fanatics, Reality and Hopeful Future” Service Leader: Rev. Brian J. Kiely. The vast majority of the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims are peaceful hardworking folks. Some are deeply religious and some are more humanistic in their outlook…pretty much like every other religious tradition. But the quiet ones don’t often grab the headlines. In this service we will acknowledge the darker sides of extremism but also look at the hopeful future.

Our wonderful resident composer, Gordon Ritchie, has written three new songs which will get their world premiere at the March 5 UCE church service. They are exquisite, deeply moving works. The first song is i carry your heart, based on the poem by e.e. cummings. The other two are shorter works written especially for the taize service that will be held that Sunday. Mark your calendars for the annual Unitarian Church membership dinner, where we celebrate our spiritual community with food, fun and music. This year’s theme is The Wizard of Oz, the famous movie that came out in 1939. We hear there will even be a yellow brick road! Costumes, from the movie or of the 1939 era, are very welcome. Music will be of the period: the Glenn Miller band, the Ink Spots, Billie Holiday, Judy Garland and much more. Food: who knows?[...]
