AFFILIATIONS

Canadian Unitarian Council

Although we recognize no hierarchical church authority, like other Unitarian Universalist churches we cooperate with other parts of the denomination through our membership in the Canadian Unitarian Council.

AFFINITIES

The Unitarian Church of Edmonton was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) until recently, when the Canadian Unitarian Council became the main association and service provider for Unitarians and Universalists in Canada. However, we maintain many ties to UUA groups and programs. We also have affinities with other international bodies.

It is drawn from the history of the Christian Reformation in Czechoslovakia where Jan Hus asserted that all members of the congregation, and not only the priests, should be allowed to drink from the chalice at holy communion. Hus was burned at the stake for his efforts, but his followers persisted in building a church that believes in the "priesthood of all believers."
